Blood Buddy, also known as ‘BB’, is the official blood donation mascot of the Singapore Red Cross (SRC). First introduced in 2005, Blood Buddy was created to encourage regular blood donations and raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donors to support patients in need.

Traditionally, Blood Buddy (and its female counterpart Blo.belina) appeared as a physical mascot at mobile blood donation drives and outreach activities organised by the SRC. In 2021, to connect with a younger generation of blood donors, the SRC refreshed BB’s appearance, giving it a more modern and adorable image. This revamped Blood Buddy has a social media presence and unique merch to make blood donation a lifestyle.

Blood Buddy’s former design has a body of a red blood droplet, with rosy cheeks and detailed eyes. The current design adds a body to the mascot with the words “BB” on it. Beady eyes also give Blood Buddy a more contemporary feel. It carries a white backpack.

On Blood Buddy’s social media feed, four other characters with the same shape represent different blood types: Annie (A), Brian (B), Abigail (AB) and Oliver (O). Each character wears different clothing in a distinct colour which helps to distinguish them - Annie carries blue sunglasses, Brian wears purple headphones, Abigail has a headscarf and Oliver sports a green snapback. They are known collectively as “BB and Friends”.
