STEMlings

STEMlings are a group of mascots introduced by Science Centre Singapore as part of their annual UNTAME festival, which celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Each STEMling embodies unique characteristics and qualities, designed to engage and inspire visitors, especially children, in exploring various STEM concepts.

As of early 2025, three series of STEMlings have been released so far, each sold as figurines in blind boxes at the Science Centre.

Series 1: UNTAME: After Dark (2021) - Reboot Agents

In UNTAME: After Dark, an evil AI called Syntax scattered four of the STEMlings’ pixels across the physical realm, leaving one to piece them back together in an adventure led by UNTAME’s participants.

STEMlings in this story were called Reboot Agents. They were Lifestyle, Energy, Food, Nature and Fashion, each dressed in different colours and related accessories.

The 3D character modelling, rigging, and animation were done by Rogan May.

Series 2: UNTAME: Spaces to Places (2022)

In this version of UNTAME, STEMlings were tasked to eradicate the Void - a villain who corrupted spaces with black goo. Five STEMlings were introduced, with short write-ups describing them:

Watt

What is its name? Watt - The standard unit of power; the perfect aptronym for the leader of the STEMlings.

Liv

For Liv, it’s all about living simply. Resourceful and self-sufficient, Liv is a steward of creating green and meaningful spaces.

Ozon

Blast off into outer space with Ozon! Ozon’s jolly personality makes it easy to bring up the atmosphere in any space.

Chrome

The brains of the bunch, Chrome is able to transcend networks within the cyberspace by digitising into a byte-sized avatar!

Inez

Breathe in…and out. Inez is an advocate for mental wellness and the best guide for learning how to achieve inner peace!

Series 3: Steam Festival (An UNTAME event) 2023

STEMlings’ mission for UNTAME’s food-themed event of 2023 was to rebuild The Paradise, a world that thrived with ethical eating and proper nutrition. The STEMlings were known collectively as the FoodFactory series.

Watt

Watt was also featured in this series as the leader of the group, this time without an astronaut suit unlike the previous year.

Fruity

Bright colours and boundless energy, that is Fruity. It would be a berry good idea to invite Fruity to any party where it will surely take the centre stage!

Patty

Patty is the meat of the operation and is all for automation and efficiency. Patty loves to use the latest technology to optimise food recipes!

Belly

To Belly, its brains are as important as its belly. No one else can come up with a more interesting and creative recipe!

Juicy

If you are what you eat, Juicy indeed loves watermelon! Of course,Juicy would Om Nom Nom on anything.

The STEMlings were also featured in UNTAME Flavours, a collection of online mini-games and quizzes in partnership with Skqii.
